A suited man whispered something to his laptop, as I walked by him on the bus. I swore at the time, I heard him say, "tip", but now I know his whispers were of a more prophetic nature. - Vera

There is the history that you learn school, and then there is what actually happened. I really wish every single person in America would read this book. It really helps you get a grasp in what you're dealing with as a citizen and activist. I think is one of Eckhart Tolle's best books. I started reading The Power of Now, but didn't like it as much as A New Earth. I found it to be very intuitively written in that just as a question came to mind, by the next chapter, it was answered.

Not a quick & easy read, but definitely a book for anyone whose involved in the GLBT community and the quest for equality. You really get an idea of the psychological effects of oppression on a minority group, an effect that is universal. It is also a good way to learn about Marxist Socialism. This book (besides being awesome in it's ID dominated bluntness) was the book that turned me on to the greatness that is graphic novels and graphic adaptations. (Extra points for having a kick ass cat named, Chicken). The book really inspired me to be blunt in my writing as well.

The Rabbi Cat & The Rabbi Cat 2 are two great graphic novels that deal with the topics of culture, religion and a talking cat that debates it all with his master (The Rabbi). I love that the cat learns to talk in the first book and messes with people by challenging their beliefs.

In between reading about socialism, politics, religion, and activism, you need a lighter book to cleanse your "palette" (for lack of a better word). Not to say this book has nothing to offer or is just fluff. No. It's a collection of queer comics by a variety of authors/artists and represent different views from the queer community. It's substantial, it's just not heavy.
