SYNOPSIS OF: FOR THE LOVE OF FANTASY
A SCREENPLAY BY MICHELE KAPLAN

Just as one has the power to dream of better times, one has the power to better their reality.
'For The Love of Fantasy' , is about a society's need, addiction and desire for fantasy, the
escape, and other mediums of sugar-coated reality.

Meet Carma D. McKinley, a wildly imaginative and creative woman, who, due to illness, has been
housebound for a month with no social contact, with the outside world. She finds herself drifting
aimlessly into daydreams and glamorous fantasies about fame, love, and success, in attempt to
compensate for what her life lacks. However, she quickly realizes how fleeting the pleasures of
fantasies are, and that they are simply not enough to fulfill her need for intellectual,
creative, social and comedic stimulation. She wants the real thing.

So, being a writer, she decides to use these fantasies as inspiration for plot ideas, and while
she writes many beginnings, none of them inspire her sufficiently to develop the story ideas,
and create a middle and an end. Frustrated with writers block and a severe case of cabin fever,
she begins to look at the concept of fantasy from a philosophical and psychological viewpoint,
and becomes intrigued by the motivation behind this human craving to escape. This inspires her.
It is then, she gets the idea to make use of all of the common fantasy themed plots and characters,
that she has previously rejected, and combine them into one deliciously intriguing and detailed
story.

We are taken into a rather chaotic land and society, called Folleywood. A land filled with love
affairs, sweetened-versions of history, facades, twisted politics, and a peculiar nightlife.
Packed with a population that is constantly escaping reality via pretenses, drugs, fantasies,
hero worship, and other mediums of escape, they desperately cling to the blind fantasies, that
keep them going in life. But, with the introduction of Nietzsche and the concept of free will, to
the inhabitants of Folleywood, a small group of citizens challenge the old beliefs and traditions
of the Boardian culture, and cause a large ripple in the formerly serene pond of their society.
